This figure is an homage to the First Military of Sevilla founded in 1809 by D. Mariano Gil Bernabé major of rank, artilleryman and military teacher of new officers in Sevilla and Cadiz in the context of the Peninsular War
Mariano Gil Bernabé was a pioneer in the drill of new support officers in Spain. In spring of 1809 come to Sevilla whit the project of create a group of new school of officers for new cadets. In august of 1809 send a write of his idea to the Supreme Central Council what in the name of the King Fernando VII direct the war against the French what accept his project.
And then Gil Bernabé take the command of the Honour Voluntary Corps of The Royal Toledo University and with this unity create the Military Academy of Sevilla whit the uniforms of the original unity. The new school was established in 14 December of 1809, two days later the Supreme Council approved the rules and regulations of the new institution.
The first building of the new academy was the Convent of San Antonio of Seville. His first cadets was nicknamed “gilitos” for the surname of his founder. When the city of Seville was taken by Napoleon´s troops in 1810 Bernabé and his “gilito´s” troopers escort the royal treasures of the city of Sevilla to the city of saved for avoid his sacked by the French.
